On 24 and 25 January, Villa Salviati witnessed the launch of the European society project, a joint cooperation between the EUI Law Department and the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law.

The project, run by Loïc Azoulai, EUI Chair in Law and Social Europe, and Armin von Bogdandy, is meant to set the terms for a renewed discussion on Europe in a context of increasing polarisation of European societies. It involves a group of scholars from various disciplines (law, sociology, political science, history, philosophy) and from diverse universities, including EUI researchers and alumni.

Over the course of two days, members discussed the concept of European society and its potential to explore, critique, and change the Europeans' condition at this particular moment in time. This is the first of three meetings over which the project will develop between Florence and Heidelberg.
