Stephanie Hofmann

The Department of Political and Social Sciences and the Robert Schuman Centre are delighted to announce that Professor Stephanie Hofmann of the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies will be joining EUI in September 2021, as the next Joint Chair in International Relations. At the Graduate Institute, Stephanie is Professor of International Relations and heads its International Relations/Political Science Department.

Professor Hofmann is an international-relations theorist and security studies specialist with expertise on the European Union; international organisations and regime complexity; the UN; NATO and alliance relations; peacekeeping and peacebuilding; and global ordering. Hofmann’s first book - European Security in NATO's Shadow (Cambridge, 2013) - is path breaking, arguing that European security can best be understood through recourse to broader theories of international relations and comparative politics, and when we take the domestic politics of security cooperation seriously. Beyond the book, Stephanie has published in leading international relations / political science and European security/studies journals (Journal of Conflict Resolution; Journal of Peace Research; Perspectives on Politics; European Journal of International Relations; International Affairs; Cooperation and Conflict; Journal of Common Market Studies).
Welcome Stephanie!
