Biography

Malkhaz Nakashidze is a Jean Monnet fellow at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies of the European University Institute, where he conducts research on ‘Stable Institutions as the Key Criteria for Accession of Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine in the European Union’. His research interests and areas of expertise include comparative constitutional law, European constitutional law, the European integration, democracy, rule of law, and human rights in the European law.

He is a professor of constitutional law and the Jean Monnet Chair at the Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University (Georgia). He holds a PhD from Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (2010) and completed post-doctoral research at the Dublin City University (Ireland), School of Law and Government (2012).

Malkhaz Nakashidze has more than 20 years experience of research and teaching in Georgia and different countries. He was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the Boston College Law School (2016-2017), a Visiting Scholar at the Sapienza University of Rome (2018), the University of Latvia (2018) and a Mevlana Visiting Professor at Ataturk University. He was the chancellor (2007-2009), and a member of the academic council (2014-2018) of the Batumi Rustaveli State University. He worked in the public service of Georgia (2004-2010) where he held different positions and led the implementation of various legislative reforms. Since 2022 he is a founding member and Co-Chair of ICON•S Georgia - the Georgian chapter of the International Society of Public Law.
