Enrico Cavallotti is a Max Weber Fellow at the European University Institute, where he is affiliated with the Department of Economics. He received his PhD in Economics from Trinity College Dublin. During his PhD studies, he was a visiting PhD scholar at Columbia University and at CERGIC-ENS Lyon. Prior to his doctoral studies, he obtained an MSc in Economics and Social Sciences from Bocconi University and a BSc in Economics, Markets and Institutions from the University of Bologna.

As an applied microeconomist, his research lies at the intersection of political economy, environmental economics, and the economics of crime. He investigates the economic and institutional drivers of criminal behaviour alongside the determinants of green voting and citizen support for environmental policies. He is also an organiser of the Florence Political Economy Applied Research Lab (PEARL).

As part of his Max Weber Fellowship, he plans to develop both agendas and connect them: on the one hand, by studying how criminal groups communicate to build legitimacy, intimidate rivals, and coordinate; on the other, by exploring how such groups exploit natural resources, tracing the broader connections between the availability of these resources and patterns of criminal behaviour.
