Biography

Juan García-Gutiérrez is PhD in Pedagogy with Honors and a Doctoral Extraordinary Award (Universidad Complutense de Madrid). Associate professor (Profesor Contratado Doctor) of Philosophy and Ethics of Education at Department of Educational Theory and Social Pedagogy (Faculty of Education, UNED). Professor García-Gutiérrez is also the Director of the Service-learning Office and Director of COETIC Innovation Group at UNED. Last year, he was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at EPOL Department (College of Education, University of Illinois).

He drives his research on Philosophy of Education, with particular attention to emerging technologies and their socio-political dimension, on issues such as the right to education and education and training in human rights; service-learning in higher education and educational ethics and deontology. As a Visiting Fellow at the STG, he will work on AI&DEM and AI&DEM ethics, neuro-rights and their implications for the future of the right to education & democracy from a human right-based approach and European values.

He serves as Member of the Scientific Committee of New Humanity (NGO with General Consultative Status with the United Nations ECOSOC). At UNED, he is member of the Ibero-American Network for Human Rights Education in Higher Education and a Member of the Academic Council for the UNESCO Chair in Distance Education. He is also a member of the International Network of Philosophy of Education (INPE), the Philosophy of Education Society (PES), and the European Association of Service Learning in Higher Education (EASLHE).
