Biography
Rajkumar Sahoo is a Max Weber Fellow at the School of Transnational Governance (STG). His research sits at the intersection of two distinct but deeply connected fields, law and technology and environmental governance, approached through interdisciplinary methods embedded in institutional law and economics. His scholarship is driven by curiosity about fundamental questions: why and how is inequality produced through changes in the rules, institutions and arrangements of market society? And how does automation and technology, taken as a unit of analysis, generate growth and development, or fail to, and distribute welfare in an already unequal society? Now, he is paying close attention to the ICE to EV transition, blue-collar jobs, clean tech and China in the changing world order.
His doctoral studies examined a behavioural-change institution in urban India, namely improved recycling at the individual and societal levels. Drawing on the analytical tools of behavioural law and economics and the work of Elinor Ostrom, his thesis examined the structural transitions surrounding the governance of environmentally friendly behaviour. He is proud to have completed his postgraduate studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University, India, a public institution committed to the idea of superior quality education in the social sciences, one that pushes students to think critically and question institutions of power.
During his time at the EUI, Rajkumar plans to publish articles, put together a monograph, and engage in community building around interdisciplinarity.
