Assessing the impact of the coronavirus emergency on healthcare delivery

Social and medical anthropologist Vanessa Grotti is investigating the impact of the coronavirus emergency on the transformation of healthcare infrastructures and healthcare delivery in Italy, Greece, Spain and France. Focusing first on maternity care – since this is one area of routine medical treatment that cannot be postponed or delayed - Grotti has been carrying out remote interviews to understand the effects of Covid-19 and associated containment measures on the healthcare experiences of patients, close relatives and medical staff. Drawing on her expertise on the history of medicine and disease control since the nineteenth century, Grotti is writing a piece on the challenge to create a vaccine for the novel coronavirus Covid-19.
