The Coding Project - Coding the Legal Outcomes of the Judgments of the Court of Justice of the European Union

The aim of the coding project is to provide a manifold and detailed coding of judgments of the Court of Justice of the European Union.

This project has received funding via the EUI Research Council calls 2017-2018.

The aim of the coding project is to provide a manifold and detailed coding of judgments of the Court of Justice of the European Union. We focus especially on case outcomes but integrate – to the extent feasible – other relevant information about the case. The project is motivated by the ambition to provide an alternative to large-n statistical analysis of judicial decision-making. It proceeds under the assumption that ‘deep legal coding’ will underwrite productive interdisciplinary conversation. The EUI researchers can contact Urška Šadl or Irene Otero Fernández for codebooks and hand coded judgments.
