The aim of the coding project is to provide a manifold and detailed coding of judgments of the Court of Justice of the European Union. We focus especially on case outcomes but integrate – to the extent feasible – other relevant information about the case. The project is motivated by the ambition to provide an alternative to large-n statistical analysis of judicial decision-making. It proceeds under the assumption that ‘deep legal coding’ will underwrite productive interdisciplinary conversation. The EUI researchers can contact Urška Šadl or Irene Otero Fernández for codebooks and hand coded judgments.Related project: Judging Under the Influence: A critical review of the influence of legal actors on the jurisprudence of the Court of Justice of the European Union.
