This project makes available a collection of all results for the elections to the European Parliament since its first direct election in 1979 at the level of single constituencies for all member states. It provides an authoritative and up to date data repository on European elections. The data includes votes and seats distributions, as well as the number of persons entitled to vote, voters (turnout), invalid and blank votes, and total valid votes. All parties receiving seats are included as well as those receiving more than 0.5 per cent of the valid votes. For the first time, results are made available at the level of single constituencies. The project includes a full documentation on party names, electoral systems and changes in constituencies.
The project is carried out in collaboration with the Constituency-Level Data Archive, of which Daniele Caramani is a founding co-director. This endeavour complements an already existing database on election results at constituency level, CLEA, that presently includes about 1,900 elections from 170 countries and territories reaching back to the first democratic elections in the 19thcentury. One future goal is to provide geo-referenced codes for territorial units to be matched with already available socio-economic and demographic data.
