Description
In this seminar, we will discuss how corporate governance (CG) is conventionally understood as referring to the relationship between directors, managers and shareholders. Yet, it will also be addressed that, first, there are profound differences in corporate governance between countries and firms – and thus, this seminar will also have a comparative and empirical dimension. Second, the traditional focus on directors, managers, and shareholders overlooks that in today’s world the powers of companies are also often discussed by reference to the notions of ‘corporate social responsibility’ (CSR) and ‘environmental, social, governance’ (ESG) concerns, and such questions about CG, CSR and ESG also have a strong normative dimension. Overall, this seminar is therefore aimed at researchers who (i) directly research the topics addressed in this seminar or (ii) have a general interest in the role of companies in today’s economic and social environment.
