Description
Europe seems to be determined to “protect its societies and people”. This means, in particular, defending European borders and the alleged “European way of life”. This generates a series of conflicts and struggles that revolve around issues of place. On the one hand, many Europeans have strong feeling about a loss of socioeconomic position and a form of cultural displacement due to uncontrolled migration. On the other hand, migrants are constantly displaced, deported and assigned to restricted places on European territory. This seminar will reflect on such a dilemma, inquiring into case studies.
