Description
This course provides a systematic overview of social science methods at the Master level. After a general introduction on how and why a methods-based approach to the study of transnational governance is needed, a couple of digital sessions concentrate on selected important steps in the research process that are decisive for the success or failure of a research project. After that, several techniques of data collection will be presented. A discussion on methodological pluralism and a short introduction to ‘methodology’ as a social science sub-discipline will complete the course.
In this course, the students will benefit from a pluralistic approach towards various research design options and methodological trade-offs at the MA level, that places usefulness and quality-working at the center of attention. After this course, students will be able to evaluate the methodological quality of the studies they consult for their work, but also to choose a research design for their own practical or scientific work.
