Malta, Academic Career Structure
The University of Malta is the main provider of higher education in the country. The Council is the governing body of the university and acts on the advice of the Senate. The Senate is also responsible for hiring the academic staff, delivering regulations, checking and approving the budget and, in broad terms, ensuring that the University meets the needs of the country. The Education Act of 1988 is the main piece of legislation in the area of education.
