ADGRC staff meet with the European Economic and Social Committee

Posted on 23 October 2017

The Alcide de Gasperi Research Centre (ADGRC), represented by Dieter Schlenker, Silvia Sassano and Benedetto Zaccaria, met with representatives from the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) on mission to the Historical Archives of the European Union (HAEU) on 23 October 2017.

ADGRC staff presented the Centre’s current and forthcoming projects to the Committee. Opportunities for collaboration on future joint research projects dealing with social issues in the field of European Integration were also discussed.

During this meeting, ADGRC staff gave the Committee an overview of the Oral History Projects, which were launched to preserve the voices of European politicians and officials. These testimonies are preserved in the form of original recordings and written transcripts in the Historical Archives of the European Union and are accessible to researchers.

ADGRC researchers highlighted the increasingly large role that oral sources play in the historiography of European Integration, as well as, an increasing interest by scholars in European social issues. This led to a fruitful discussion displaying EESC and ADGRC interests in developing a research project on the History of the Economic and Social Committee.
