The Historical Archives of the European Union, in collaboration with the Spadolini Foundation and the Associazione Amici della Fondazione Spadolini, will host a seminar entitled "Helmut Schmidt - Giovanni Spadolini: Europa nell'Occidente".
The event, on 25 May 2018, aims to deepen the understanding of the cultural and political impact of two great personalities who, in addition to playing important roles in their respective countries, were inspired by a strong Europeanist and Atlantic spirit and influenced the process of European construction.
The seminar, which will be held in Italian, features a range of experts in the field of European integration. The seminar will consist of one introductory presentation about each of the two personalities and two panels, which will examine the choices they made in regards to foreign and economic policy, as well as in the debate on the single currency.
Vincenzo Grassi, Secretary General of the European University Institute and Cosimo Ceccuti, President of the Spadolini Nuova Antologia Foundation will welcome participants. The closing speech will be given by Giuliano Amato, Judge of the Constitutional Court of the Italian Republic and former President of the Council of Ministers of the Italian Republic.
