Fernand Braudel Senior Fellowships

There are two deadlines for applications in 2025: 31 March 2025 / 14.00 CEST and 30 September 2025 / 14.00 CEST

• Department of Economics: considers applications for the deadline 31 March 2025 and 30 September 2025 for fellowships during the following academic year (for the March deadline within the period from 1 September 2025 to 30 June 2026).
• Department of Law: considers applications only for the deadline 31 March 2025 for fellowships during the following academic year (within the period from 1 September 2025 to 30 June 2026). While longer stays are welcomed, the department is only able to provide funding of one or two months to some of the successful applicants, but provides office space and full library privileges for the entire duration of stay.
• Department of History: considers applications only for the deadline 30 September 2025 for fellowships during the following academic year (within the period from 1 September 2026 to 30 June 2027). While longer stays than three months are welcome, the department normally funds fellows only up to three months, but provides office space and full library privileges for the entire duration of stay.
• Department of Political and Social Sciences: considers applications only for the deadline 30 September 2025 for fellowships during the following academic year (within the period from 1 September 2026 to 30 June 2027). The Department also considers applications from exceptional early-career scientists. While longer stays than 3 months are welcomed and desired, the department funds fellows only up to 3 months. Working space (in a shared office) and full library privileges are provided for the entire duration of stay.

Application Procedure

There are two distinct phases in the application process:

2. Submit your application by the deadline

Once you have registered your application you may continue to work on the application details and attachments until the deadline. Submit the application only when you have filled in all the information correctly and have successfully uploaded the final version of the attachments.

After submission, it will not be possible to update or modify your application.

The fellowships are open to established academics with an international reputation. Former professors or fellows of the EUI are eligible after three years have elapsed since their last contract with the EUI.

Nationality
Candidates of all nationalities are eligible.

Languages
Fellows should have a good knowledge of English and of any other language relevant to their proposed research.

Required Documents

• Prepare your CV (a short CV of maximum 5 pages including education, professional experience, prizes and other major achievements) with a selected list of publications (a list of your books, contributions to books and major professional journals) in PDF
• Prepare a research proposal (2-4 pages) in PDF
• Copy of an identity document (such as a passport or ID card) - JPG format

Use standard international fonts and avoid macros, special characters and password-protected attachments.

The Research proposal should also meet the requirements established by the EUI Guidelines for the Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence for Research. In particular, candidates should refrain from having Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) autonomously write substantial or integral parts of the documents. When using AI to produce novel content, they must acknowledge and reference the parts of the content that have been AI-generated.

Reference Letters
The EUI does not request reference letters at this stage but candidates are asked to provide the names and contact details of two referees whom the EUI may contact at a later date.
