EUI Widening Europe Programme

The EUI Widening Europe Programme aims to build a bridge between the EUI and national higher education institutions in targeted Widening countries by offering shared activities for early-stage researchers, fellows, senior academics, and administrative staff. Supported by contributions from the European Union and EUI Contracting States, the programme features PhD scholarships, postdoctoral fellowships, mobility grants, summer schools, fieldwork experiences, seminars, and workshops to the scholarly community in the targeted Widening countries.

As a uniquely European university, the EUI is part of the effort in closing the knowledge gap across Europe and is determined to play a leading role in strengthening internationalisation, competitiveness, and quality in research in the targeted Widening countries, thus fostering a more cohesive European Higher Education Area and European Research Area.

Through the programme, the EUI provides scholars from the targeted Widening countries with opportunities to enhance academic training, conduct excellent research, and produce top-quality policy advice, thereby fostering the development of exceptional expertise within those regions.

By connecting scholars from the targeted Widening countries with a broader international community, the EUI Widening Europe Programme provides support to overcome key challenges, such as limited knowledge transfer, underdeveloped scholarly networks, and scarce professional growth opportunities.
