The inventory of the archives of the Centro Italiano di Formazione Europea (CIFE/IT) has been published online, and the documents can be consulted in the HAEU’s reading room at Villa Salviati in Florence. This archival fonds complements the existing holdings of the Centre international de formation européenne (CIFE), which was deposited in Florence in 2004.
CIFE/IT was established in 1963 in Rome to promote research and training at the EU level with the support of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the European Commission, as well as other Italian and European public and private bodies. The archives were transferred to the HAEU from the headquarters of the Italian Centre in 2018, with the authorisation of the Soprintendenza archivistica e bibliografica of the Lazio region, and thanks to the input of the former Secretary-General of the Centre, Professor Raimondo Cagiano De Azevedo.
The CIFE/IT archives comprises 688 paper files, 14 floppy disks and 376 posters, covering the period between 1963 and 2006. There is also a substantial amount of audio-visual material, which will be processed and made available to the public at a later stage.
The various files reflect the administrative organisation of the Centre and documents of the rich and informative work programmes and study projects that CIFE/IT organised over the years. The strong federalist element of the CIFE/IT is also evident, and the activities the Centre undertook with other federalist bodies are also well documented.
