The EUI gardening society, Orto, has partnered with the EUI Library as part of the annual ‘Europe Challenge’ programme.
Supported by the European Cultural Foundation and its partners, ‘Europe Challenge’ brings together teams from libraries and communities to tackle social, digital, and climate challenges. The programme empowers them to address local issues through creativity, dialogue, and collective action.
A core belief of the programme is that libraries and their communities play a vital role in promoting a more inclusive, connected and sustainable Europe. This year, Orto and the Library have launched the project ‘From books to beds: a library–garden collaboration for sustainable living’, establishing a new community garden. The project aims to strengthen community ties, foster relationships through gardening, and connect nature with library resources and academic life.
With the support of the Library, Orto will create a dedicated space featuring books and resources on sustainable living, gardening, and community design. The community garden will host gardening sessions, events, and workshops.
