François-Xavier Ortoli Fonds

Francois- Xavier Ortoli

On the 27th September, the Historical Archives of the EU in the presence of the legal heirs received a deposit of 300 files from the private archives of François-Xavier Ortoli.

Ortoli had been French Minister for the Economy and Finances and for Industrial Development under the presidencies of General de Gaulle and Georges Pompidou and from 1973 to 1977 he was appointed President of the European Commission and from 1977 to 1984 he was Vice-President for Economic and Financial Affairs in the Commission. From 1984 to 1990, he was director of the petroleum company Total before becoming President of the Conseil national du Patronat français international.

The Director of the Historical Archives, Jean-Marie Palayret, will be present at the ceremony organised in honour of François-Xavier Ortoli on the 27th October in Brussels by the Barroso Commission (consisting in the naming of a meeting room in his honour and exhibition).
