Programme: EUI / US Exchange Programme
Up to four EUI researchers (usually one researcher per department) may attend University of California at Berkeley (UCB) per academic year. Researchers benefit from a non-degree visiting student status.
EUI researchers in the second or third year of the doctoral programme are eligible to participate in the exchange, subject to the support of their faculty supervisor and departmental recommendation.
Duration is normally 4 months (Sept. to Dec. - Fall; or mid-Jan. to mid-May - Spring; or end-May to mid-August, Summer).
Funding:
Exempt from the payment of Tuition/fees to UCB (N.B. this does not include campus fees, registration fee per term, application fees and possibly insurance)
€4000 (lump sum) contributed by EUI towards defraying living costs
Application Procedure:
The application procedure for the exchange programmes is divided into two separate and distinct phases.
Phase 1 - Application to the SPS Department and the EUI
Researchers should submit their application to the SPS Department by 9 December 2020.
The application should include:
-Letter of support from the faculty supervisor
-Curriculum Vitae
-Two to three page statement of intent ("work plan") summarizing proposed activity and indicating preferred period and length of stay
The Department will review all applications in its December departmental meeting and if approved the researcher should then submit their application to Academic Service by the Institutional deadline of 14 January 2021.
All applications from all departments will then be reviewed by the Entrance Board during January. Reseachers will be informed of the institute's decision accordingly.
Phase 2 - Application to UCB
Successful applicants then have to apply to UCB. Application procedures can vary from a year to another and all relevant information and forms will be provided on due time by the International Mobility Officer.
