Exchange Programmes for Social and Political Scientists

Follows is a list of institutions with which the Political And Social Sciences Department currently has exchange agreements.

Submit your application by:

  • Departmental deadline: 9 December 2020
  • Institutional deadline: 14 January 2021

 

Programme: Erasmus+

Up to two SPS researchers may attend the Central European University, Department of Political Science per academic year. 

EUI researchers in the second or third year of the doctoral programme are eligible to participate in the exchange, subject to the support of their faculty supervisor and departmental recommendation.           

Duration is normally 4 months (either the Fall, Winter or Spring term).

Funding:             

Exempt from the payment of Tuition/fees

An Erasmus study grant

Application Procedure:   

The application procedure for the exchange programmes is divided into two separate and distinct phases.

Phase 1 - Application to the SPS Department and the EUI 

Researchers should submit their application to the SPS Department by 9 December 2020.

The application should include: 

  • Letter of support from the faculty supervisor  
  • Curriculum Vitae 
  • Two to three page statement of intent ("work plan") summarizing proposed activity and indicating preferred period and length of stay  

The Department will review all applications in its December departmental meeting and if approved the researcher should then submit their application to Academic Service by the Institutional deadline of 14 January 2021.

All applications from all departments will then be reviewed by the Entrance Board during January. Reseachers will be informed of the institute's decision accordingly.

Phase 2 - Application to the Central European University, Department of Political Science

Successful applicants then have to apply to the Central European University, Department of Political Science.

Application deadlines are:

  • Fall term: May 31st 
  • Winter and Spring term: October 31st

Programme: Bilateral exchange agreement between EUI, SPS Department and The European University at Saint-Petersburg (EUSP)

 

EUI researchers can go in their third or fourth year or later in their second year after they have finished their seminar and course requirements at the EUI in agreement with their Supervisor and approval of their Department and the Entrance Board.

Duration has to be agreed with and approved by the EUI Department and coordinated with EUSP.

 Funding:

The selected researchers can apply for mission funding from the Department. Once at EUSP, EUI researchers are eligible for all student rights and mission funding from EUSP and are exempted from the payment of tuition/fees.

 

Application Procedure:   

The application procedure for the exchange programmes is divided into two separate and distinct phases.

Phase 1 - Application to the SPS Department and the EUI

Researchers should submit their application to the SPS Department by 9 December 2020.

The application should include: 

  • Letter of support from the faculty supervisor  
  • Curriculum Vitae 
  • Two to three page statement of intent ("work plan") summarizing proposed activity and indicating preferred period and length of stay  

The Department will review all applications in its December departmental meeting and if approved the researcher should then submit their application to Academic Service by the Institutional deadline of 14 January 2021.

All applications from all departments will then be reviewed by the Entrance Board at the end of January. Reseachers will be informed of the institute's decision during the following week.

Phase 2 - Application to The European University at Saint-Petersburg

Successful applicants then have to apply to EUSP. The School does not have any specific deadline although applications should be submitted well in advance of the intended stay.

Programme: Erasmus+

Up to two SPS researchers may attend Humboldt Universitaet zu Berlin, Institut für Sozialwissenschaften,  per academic year. 

EUI researchers in the second or third year of the doctoral programme are eligible to participate in the exchange, subject to the support of their faculty supervisor and departmental recommendation.           

Duration is normally 5 months (either the Winter or Summer term).

Funding:             

Exempt from the payment of Tuition/fees

The application procedure for the exchange programmes is divided into two separate and distinct phases.

Phase 1 - Application to the SPS Department and the EUI 

Researchers should submit their application to the SPS Department by 9 December 2020.

The application should include: 

-Letter of support from the faculty supervisor  

-Curriculum Vitae 

-Two to three page statement of intent ("work plan") summarizing proposed activity and indicating preferred period and length of stay  

The Department will review all applications in its December departmental meeting and if approved the researcher should then submit their application to Academic Service by the Institutional deadline of 14 January 2021.

Phase 2 - Application to Humboldt Universitaet zu Berlin, Institut für Sozialwissenschaften

Successful applicants then have to apply to Humboldt Universitaet zu Berlin, Institut für Sozialwissenschaften.

Application deadlines are:

  • Winter term: May 31st
  • Summer term: November 30th

EUI researchers in the second or third year of the doctoral programme are eligible to participate in the exchange, subject to the support of their faculty supervisor and departmental recommendation.           

Funding:             

Exempt from the payment of Tuition/fees

Phase 2 - Application to London School of Economics and Political Science, European Institute

Successful applicants then have to apply to London School of Economics and Political Science, European Institute. There are no deadlines as such but all applications should be submitted in a reasonable time frame.

Programme: EUI / US Exchange Programme        

Up to four EUI researchers (usually one researcher per department) may attend New York University (NYU) per academic year. Researchers benefit from a non-degree visiting student status.     

EUI researchers in the second or third year of the doctoral programme are eligible to participate in the exchange, subject to the support of their faculty supervisor and departmental recommendation.           

Duration is normally 4 months (Sept. to Dec. - Fall; or mid-Jan. to mid-May - Spring; or end-May to mid-August, Summer).

Funding:             

Exempt from the payment of Tuition/fees to NYU              

€4000 (lump sum) contributed by EUI towards defraying living costs

 

Application Procedure:   

The application procedure for the exchange programmes is divided into two separate and distinct phases.

Phase 1 - Application to the SPS Department and the EUI 

Researchers should submit their application to the SPS Department by 9 December 2020.

The application should include: 

  • Letter of support from the faculty supervisor  
  • Curriculum Vitae 
  • Two to three page statement of intent ("work plan") summarizing proposed activity and indicating preferred period and length of stay  

The Department will review all applications in its December departmental meeting and if approved the researcher should then submit their application to Academic Service by the Institutional deadline of 14 January 2021.

Phase 2 - Application to NYU

Successful applicants then have to apply to NYU. The relevant forms are available from Academic Service. 

NYU has two submission deadlines:

  • For the Fall Semester: 15 February
  • For the Spring Semester: 15 September 

The host faculty will normally decide on the admission of EUI candidates:

  • For the Fall term in May
  • For the Spring term in November

Programme: EUI / US Exchange Programme        

Up to four EUI researchers (usually one researcher per department) may attend University of California at Berkeley (UCB) per academic year. Researchers benefit from a non-degree visiting student status.     

EUI researchers in the second or third year of the doctoral programme are eligible to participate in the exchange, subject to the support of their faculty supervisor and departmental recommendation.           

Duration is normally 4 months (Sept. to Dec. - Fall; or mid-Jan. to mid-May - Spring; or end-May to mid-August, Summer).

Funding:             

Exempt from the payment of Tuition/fees to UCB   (N.B. this does not include campus fees, registration fee per term, application fees and possibly insurance)           

€4000 (lump sum) contributed by EUI towards defraying living costs

 

Application Procedure:   

The application procedure for the exchange programmes is divided into two separate and distinct phases.

Phase 1 - Application to the SPS Department and the EUI

Researchers should submit their application to the SPS Department by 9 December 2020.

The application should include:

-Curriculum Vitae

Successful applicants then have to apply to UCB. Application procedures can vary from a year to another and all relevant information and forms will be provided on due time by the International Mobility Officer.

Programme: EUI / US Exchange Programme        

Up to four EUI researchers (usually one researcher per department) may attend University of Wisconsin at Madison (UWM) per academic year. 

Researchers benefit from a non-degree visiting student status.     

EUI researchers in the second or third year of the doctoral programme are eligible to participate in the exchange, subject to the support of their faculty supervisor and departmental recommendation.           

Duration is normally 4 months:

  • Fall: September to December
  • Spring: mid-January to mid-May 
  • Summer: end-May to mid-August

Funding:             

Exempt from the payment of Tuition/fees to UWM              

€4000 (lump sum) contributed by EUI towards defraying living costs

 

Application Procedure:   

The application procedure for the exchange programmes is divided into two separate and distinct phases.

Phase 1 - Application to the SPS Department and the EUI 

Researchers should submit their application to the SPS Department by 9 December 2020.

The application should include:

Successful applicants then have to apply to UWM. UWM does not have any specific deadline although applications should be submitted in the semester prior to the intended stay. All relevant information and forms will be provided on due time by the International Mobility Officer.
