Background

The number of researchers obtaining a doctoral qualification has increased considerably in recent years, with greater numbers of researchers now competing for postdoctoral employment opportunities. This session aims to offer comprehensive guidance to help researchers to compete effectively in this environment and maximise their chances of obtaining the right position for them.

How this Course Works and What You Will Learn

This careers planning online workshop is aimed at researchers who are nearing completion of their doctorate. It complements the individual online careers coaching appointments which are usually available in the third term.

The workshop offers comprehensive guidance for researchers to compete effectively when seeking employment in higher education. It helps them maximise their chances of obtaining the right position for them. Participants will learn about important transition skills such as cv development, writing a persuasive cover letter and effective job interview techniques. The workshop also offers guidance on handling rejection and maintaining a positive outlook while job seeking.

Individual Online Careers Coaching Appointments

Following this Early Careers Planning online workshop, researchers will have the opportunity to book an individual 45-minute careers coaching online appointment with the workshop facilitator, for impartial and confidential guidance.
