Biography

Virpi Koykka, a European Parliament official since 1996, has held various positions in Parliament’s general secretariat before her appointment as Director for Publishing, Innovation and Data Management in the Directorate-General for Innovation and Technological Support in 2018. Prior to joining the European Parliament, she worked as a project researcher and research official in the Ministry of Labour in Finland. Virpi Koykka holds a Master’s and a Licentiate degree in Political Science from the University of Turku.

Having led projects of digital transformation, emerging technologies, and data management in the European Parliament, Virpi Koykka’s research interests relate, among other things, to impacts of digitalisation on politics, parliamentary democracy, and citizens’ participation. Her research at the EUI focuses on the provision and governance of open data by national parliaments.
