Data Protection Officer (DPO)
The internal regulation of the European University Institute (EUI) regarding Data Protection provides for the appointment of a Data Protection Officer (DPO).
The EUI's President appointed Mr Günter Wilms as DPO for a term of three years starting from 1 November 2016.
The DPO ensures, in an independent manner, respect for the provisions of Decision 10/2019.
The DPO also provides advice on the interpretation of the Decision and makes recommendations for the practical improvement of data protection at the EUI. The DPO may perform assessments concerning compliance with the above-mentioned Decision.
The DPO also promotes awareness on data protection and data security, in close cooperation with the Controllers and the Data Security Officer.
The tasks of the DPO are set forth, more in detail, in Articles 20 and 23 of President’s Decision No 10/2019.
