The Archives welcomes the new Master students of the EUI School of Transnational Governance

Posted on 20 October 2020

Visite STG 2020In the context of the new Master of Arts in Transnational Governance (MTnG) of the EUI School of Transnational Governance (STG) and as part of their induction programme at the EUI, the first-year students visited the HAEU on 14 October 2020 to learn about the Archives, its mission and its holdings.

The visit was organized in view of the seminar of Prof. Corinna Unger (EUI HEC Department) on “The Emergence of Transnational Governance: Actors, Structures, Practices.” Within this seminar, students will gain insight on how to conduct archival research in a real archival environment at the HAEU. The following topics will be explored during archival group work: the Chernobyl accident and the EC response; European initiatives to fight racism and xenophobia; the making of ERASMUS; the Schuman Declaration and the making of the ECSC; the EU and the promotion of democracy and human rights; Britain and the Common Market, 1951-1973. Due to the Covid-19 situation, the archival work is done digitally by using the HAEU online platform.

The involvement of the HAEU as part of academic teaching and learning is an integral part of the HAEU’s services offered to scholars. The HAEU has worked over years with the universities of Trento, Siena, Rome, and Bologna/Forli and provided seminars in the reading room with the use of archival documents. For these academic seminars, HAEU staff assists in proposing research topics, identifying and preparing relevant materials for thematic research and group work, and supporting the students as tutors. The project launched with the EUI School of Transnational Governance is a new ambitious project as part of the EUI’s academic activities.

The EUI School of Transnational Governance (STG) delivers teaching and high-level training in the methods, knowledge, skills and practice of governance beyond the State. The School brings the worlds of academia and policy-making together in an effort to navigate a context, both inside and outside Europe, where policy-making increasingly transcends national borders.
