Exchange programmes with institutions in USA

Programme: EUI / US Exchange Programme

Up to four EUI researchers (usually one researcher per department) may attend New York University (NYU) per academic year. Researchers benefit from a non-degree visiting student status.

EUI researchers in the second or third year of the doctoral programme are eligible to participate in the exchange, subject to the support of their faculty supervisor and departmental recommendation.

Duration is normally 4 months either in:

  • Fall: September to December
  • Spring: mid-January to mid-May
  • Summer: end-May to mid-August

Funding:

Exempt from the payment of Tuition/fees to NYU

€4000 (lump sum) contributed by EUI towards defraying living costs

Application Procedure:

The application procedure for the exchange programmes is divided into two separate and distinct phases.

Phase 1 - Application to the ECO Department and the EUI

Researchers should submit their application to the ECO Department by 5 December 2019.

The application should include:

  • Letter of support from the faculty supervisor
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Two to three page statement of intent ("work plan") summarizing proposed activity and indicating preferred period and length of stay

The Department will review all applications in its December departmental meeting and if approved the researcher should then submit their application to Academic Service by the Institutional deadline of 14 January 2020.

All applications from all departments will then be reviewed by the Entrance Board during January. Reseachers will be informed of the institute's decision accordingly.

Phase 2 - Application to NYU

Successful applicants then have to apply to NYU. The relevant forms are available from Academic Service.  NYU has two submission deadlines: 15 February (for the Fall semester) and 15 September (for the Spring Semester). The host faculty will normally decide on the admission of EUI candidates for the Fall term in May  and for the Spring term in November.
