School Programme 2019-2020 launched with participation of former Members of European Parliament

Posted on 13 December 2019

In the context of the HAEU School Programme 2019-2020, the HAEU saw last week the visit of Monica Baldi, former MEP and member of the EP’s Former Member Association, who shared her experiences with the Florentine students participating to the HAEU school programme.

After last year’s programme which focused on the European Parliament’s election of May 2019, the HAEU educational programme for Florentine schools for the school year 2019-2020 centers around topics related to the free movement of persons and to the dynamics and memories of mobility across the European Union. The programme addresses primary, lower and upper secondary schools. Every class is invited to participate to two meetings with the HAEU educators - the first taking place at school while the second at Villa Salviati, the seat of the Archives.

With around 60 school high school classes involved in this year’s programme, the HAEU witnessed growing participation and enthusiasm from high schools of the Florentine metropolitan area. At the same time, the primary and lower secondary schools were once again considerable involved in HAEU educational activities with around 20 classes participating.

The HAEU education programme aims to bring students and teachers into contact with the rich archival heritage of the HAEU and to enhance students’ understanding and knowledge on the history of European integration. It focuses on the original documents held at the HAEU to introduce students to important themes related to the history and current developments of European integration and European institutions. The program creates social spaces for interactive reflection, discussion and learning about issues around Europe, democracy and citizenship.

The HAEU school project is organised in collaboration with FMA, the Former Member Association of the European Parliament. This collaboration involves former Members of European Parliament meeting with Florentine students and sharing their experiences in European politics and views on the European Union.
