Health information for trainees

What health insurance do I need?

You will need health insurance covering the time you are a trainee at the EUI.

There are two possibilities:

  • An EHIS (European Health Insurance Card) which you should obtain in your own country before arriving in Italy
  • Private health insurance. The EUI can arrange insurance with Cigna. You should contact Silvia Gastaldello of the EUI Central Administration Services to arrange this

What if I need to see a doctor?

There are three general practictioners receiving patients by appointment in the Medical Consulting Room (Sala Medica) at the Badia Fiesolana. They are private doctors. The cost of a visit for Cigna holders is €9.

If you do not have Cigna Insurance and need to see a doctor, you can go to Misericordia (tel. 055212221 general number for appointment or information) in Viale dei Mille 32 (Campo di Marte) or Vicolo Adimari 1 (south side of the Duomo).

You should call them first, but they can usually arrange a same-day appointment and charge reasonable prices. The Misericordia has GPs and Cardiologists, Gynaecologists, Orthopaedists, Dermatologists, Gastroenterologists, Paediatrics, etc. Also some categories of medical tests can be done such as scans, small operations, etc.

The average cost of a visit is €30/40
