The Schuman Centre welcomes applications for its Visiting Fellowship Programme, open to scholars at the doctoral level or above and to senior practitioners who can make a meaningful academic and intellectual contribution to the Centre’s research community. Visiting Fellows are expected to actively participate in seminars, collaborate with ongoing research initiatives, and integrate into the Centre’s interdisciplinary environment.
Eligibility and Expectations
Applicants must:
- Hold a postdoctoral qualification or demonstrated professional experience as a senior practitioner.
- Present a clear research agenda that aligns with ongoing work at the Schuman Centre.
- Be supported by at least one Schuman Centre programme, Joint Chair, or the Centre Director.
- Commit to active academic engagement, including participation in seminars, availability for research exchange with other scholars, and contributing to one of the Working Paper / Policy Paper series of the Schuman Centre or programme-related output.
- Be physically present in Florence for most of their fellowship period.
RSC provides Visiting Fellows with access to hot desks and research facilities, but does not provide any financial support.
The standard residency period is 3–6 months; shorter (minimum 1 month) or longer (up to 11 months) periods require justification. No resident fellows are hosted in August. For shorter stays, or if no sponsor within the RSC is available, it is possible to request access to the EUI Library as a Library Guest Reader. More information can be found here: https://www.eui.eu/Research/Library/Services/External-users/Access-for-external-users
PhD candidates wishing to visit the EUI should not contact the RSC but the relevant teaching department.
