Impact of Covid-19 on the Portoguese Academic Job Market in the Social Sciences and Humanities

The Covid-19 health emergency has not had a profound impact on the Portuguese academic job market in the social sciences and humanities. The main novelties include:

  • New financial aid to help researchers tackle unexpected expenses due to the Covid-19 crisis.
  • New social science funds and projects oriented towards Covid-19.

Responses adopted by the Universities

It is widely recommended to visit the ‘Admissions’ section of each university webpage to consult on specific programmes’ stipulations on COVID-19.

  • University of Porto (Institute of Social Sciences)
The call within the framework of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions - Individual Fellowships (H2020-MSCA-IF-2020) programme promoted by H2020, the Instituto de Ciências Sociais [Institute of Social Sciences] of the University of Lisbon, Portugal (ICS-ULisboa) has not been modified by the Covid-19 health emergency.
All ICS members are informed that payment of wages is assured.
The application dates for the IC&DT Project Course in all Scientific Domains have been extended until 28 April 2020 and 30 April2020, respectively. In addition, the deadline for the submission of the declaration of commitment within the scope of the Project Contest was also extended, with a deadline of 15 May 2020.
This need for postponement stems from recent developments related to the Covid-19 pandemic, which is affecting the work of the scientific community. In this way, FCT seeks to respond to the requests sent by candidates, who in their presentations expressed limitations for the implementation of processes, that is, in terms of time and access to the necessary documentation to submit the applications.
All travel in connection with administrative duties or for study purposes (missions) is suspended. Authorization for travel which is deemed to be essential and urgent is subject to the decision of the Director of the ICS, and will be taken on a case by case basis. Self-isolation (for 15 days) will be observed.

  1. All missions in service are cancelled.
