Open Day

Every year the Archives celebrate Europe Day with a full day of activities for the whole family.

Europe Day, held on 9 May every year, celebrates peace and unity in Europe. The date marks the anniversary of the historical 'Schuman declaration'. At a speech in Paris in May 1950, Robert Schuman, the then French foreign minister, set out his idea for a new form of political cooperation in Europe, which would make war between Europe’s nations not only materially impossible but also unthinkable.

Schuman’s proposal is considered to be the beginning of what is now the European Union.

In 2017 Villa Salviati will celebrate Europe Day by opening the grounds and archives on 6 May.

Resources

Have fun exploring ideas about the European Union through the games available on these websites. The selected links include games for all ages.

The EU tries to make life better for all of us in all sorts of ways, like protecting the countryside, making sure the food we eat is safe, making phone calls and texts cheaper, fighting crime and lots, lots more.

The EU also works to improve life for children and young people. You need to know your rights, what you can expect from the world around you and what you don't have to put up with!

There's so much to find out - and here's the best place to start! Have fun!
