EUI Orto (Community Garden)

The EUI community garden is a shared space where researchers, staff, partners, families, and friends can grow fresh, healthy vegetables, relax outdoors, meet others, and take part in a collective project. It is both a place to reconnect with nature and an opportunity to learn together through gardening.

Beyond cultivating and maintaining the garden, the project also aims to strengthen its community dimension by hosting events such as open mics, meditation, stargazing, and aperitivi, as well as informal discussions on food sovereignty, local food systems, and sustainable production in connection with local groups in Florence and the surrounding area.

Set within the EUI’s green surroundings, the garden offers a simple way to engage in hands-on activity, share knowledge, and build community. We would be glad to meet you, so feel free to get in touch !

Information

The orto functions on the basis that whoever participates in the collective planting and the maintenance of the garden will naturally take home a share of their produce. Work and task assignments are decided collectively and on a voluntary basis. There is no expectation of commitment to the gardening sessions, come whenever your schedule allows it to share some time in nature and share some snacks or aperitivo!

We apply permaculture principles and practice 'no-dig gardening'. We're also very open to new or different agroecological methods as experimentation is very much in our DNA. We encourage beginners to try at any time as well as we provide explanations on how to garden, we even have a few self-declared "plant killers" in our group and we're doing great. See you in the garden!
