Life on Campus

Facilities

Many of the buildings on campus date from the Renaissance period and have been meticulously restored along with their landscaped gardens. The EUI campus itself spreads over the hills of Fiesole and access between the buildings is guaranteed by an internal shuttle bus service.

There are several canteens and bars serving lunch and snacks from Monday to Friday excluding EUI holidays.

The EUI runs a Crèche providing preschool care for the children of all EUI members. The age range is normally 6 months to 3 years, although older children are sometimes catered for.

Accommodation

The Housing Office organises the allocation of the EUI residential apartments. Through FHS (Florence Housing Service), it provides also assistance to all members of the EUI Community in finding long and short term accommodation on the private market in and around Florence.

Well-being

wellbeing

The EUI offers a healthy work-life balance in a family-friendly environment.

Our EUI4U Unit provides information on EUI services and helps newcomers and their families settle into the working and community life of the EUI and Florence. In the first year, you will benefit from a structured induction programme, to make you feel part of our large and diverse community.

Should you have family/caring responsibilities, we have family-friendly policies that provide for flexible working, maternity and paternity leave, and leave for family emergencies.

We take the well-being of our staff seriously and our Counselling Service offers support through times of difficulty. There is also an onsite medical consulting room where a general practitioner receives patients by appointment.

Social activities

There are a wide range of activities run by EUI members to help you integrate into the EUI community. These may occur both on and off-site. Mostly of a cultural and sporting nature, there are currently twenty five such clubs.

Ongoing activities include the EUI Choir, two football clubs (men and women’s), rowing, running, yoga courses, theatre and dance, but there are many more.

You can also plan to work out at the small EUI gym.

For those who do not participate in the academic activities of the Institute there is the possibility to join the EUI's Partners group that meets twice a month. The group organises different activities, exchanges of experiences and offers company.

Culture & learning

Prestigious lectures, events and workshops on a wide range of subjects are open to all staff.

You have free access to the Library and the Historical Archives of the European Union.

The Language Centre offers various types of language and academic skills courses and support in English, Italian, French, German and Spanish.

The HR Service organises also a number of training and learning activities for the EUI administrative staff.
