Comparative Political Data Sets

Data description

UBern Comparative Political Data Sets (Universität Bern) provide institutional and political observations for 36 democratic countries from 1960 to 2016 (updated August, 2018).

The database is suitable for cross national, longitudinal and time series analyses. Data for Greece, Spain and Portugal cover only democratic periods.

CPDS is prepared at the Universität Bern as part of two research projects directed by Prof. Klaus Armingeon: 'Critical Junctures: an international comparison' and 'Handlungs-spielräume des Nationalstaates.' Additional demographic, social and economic variables are included to give context to the core data.

The 'Supplement to the Comparative Political Data Set - Government Composition 1960-2013' provides data on "party composition, reshuffles, duration, reason for termination and the type of government for 36 OECD and/or EU-member countries."
