World Values Survey


Data description

WVSThe World Values Survey provides data on social, cultural and political change worldwide. The WVS consists of national sample surveys in over 90 countries, using a common questionnaire with variables on beliefs, values, economic development, democratisation, religion, gender equality, social capital and subjective well-being. The survey has been coordinated by the World Values Survey Association (Stockholm) since 1981. Work on the seventh wave of WVS is ongoing.

Time period

Six waves of the World Values Survey are available:

  • Wave 7 (forthcoming)
  • Wave 6 (2010-2014)
  • Wave 5 (2005-2009)
  • Wave 4 (1999-2004)
  • Wave 3 (1995-1998)
  • Wave 2 (1990-1994)
  • Wave 1 (1981-1984)

The WVS Association also provides integrated WVS Longitudinal longitudinal multiple-wave data files in Stata, SPSS, R, SAS and csv formats.
