The Great Tuscan Artists

A series of five illustrated art lectures will be delivered in English by Mrs Sidsel Vivarelli Colonna on Tuesday evenings in the Refectory, at 18.00, starting 2 February 2010:

2 Feb: From Gothic to the Renaissance: Ghiberti and Donatello

16 Feb: Humanity and Holiness: Masaccio and Fra Beato Angelico

23 Feb: The Painter of the mysterious Virgins: Piero Della Francesca 

2 March: The smiling Genius: Leonardo

9 March: The dark Genius: Michelangelo

Mrs Sidsel Vivarelli studied aesthetics and art history at the Sorbonne, has worked for the Uffizi’s Educational Department and has taught art history at James Madison University.  Besides organizing visits, lectures and programs of various museums and with the Friends of the Smithsonian Museums, she has also been responsible for many years of guided cultural journeys, both in Italy and abroad. She has been President of the Friends of the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino for 10 years, and continues to give lectures and introductions to operas staged by the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.
