EUI Closures

Summer Break

The Insitute is usually closed for 2 weeks in the month of August (dates vary according to the calendar).

During the Summer break all EUI Buildings, with the sole exception of the Badia Fiesolana, are totally closed and EUI ID card readers are deactivated: access with EUI ID cards is granted only at the Badia Fiesolana.

The Upper Cloister, equipped with 12 PCs, and the bank corridor are accessible to all EUI researchers. Cleaning services are guaranteed only in these spaces and in the nearby facilities.

For security reasons, before leaving for the Summer break, all users are kindly requested to close the external shutters of the windows.

The Institute does not provide assistance for watering plants, so individuals should make their own provisions accordingly

The ICT Service guarantees that all systems relating to the web, internet, VPN and home directories are monitored during the closure.

The webmail service is always reachable from: http://outlook.com/eui.eu

Tickets opened on the EUI Helpdesk are not treated during the closure, they will be assigned and processed only at the reopening of the Institute.

Concerning security matters and notification of any IT problems, security personnel are present in the control room at the Badia Fiesolana 24/7 and can be reached on the internal extension 2999, via the external number 055 4685-999  or by email to [email protected].

Christmas/Winter Break

The Insitute is usually closed for 2 weeks during Christmas and New Year's holidays (dates vary according to the calendar).

During the Christmas break EUI members can access all EUI buildings (including the internal car parks): access to buildings is granted using an EUI ID card and is at the member’s own responsibility.

Please take note of the following:

  • doors are alarmed;
  • doors fitted with access control have no handles and can therefore be opened only by swiping your EUI ID card in the reader when entering or leaving through these access points;
  • anti-panic doors are alarmed and therefore, to avoid sounding the alarm, you must swipe your EUI ID card in the reader when entering or leaving through these access points.

Access to the Badia Fiesolana is possible via the pedestrian entrance in the Church square, via Villa Sanfelice, via the pedestrian gate of the connecting road between Villa Schifanoia and the Badia, and via the gate of the Badia Fiesolana car park.

Researchers can access the working spaces in the upper cloister of the Badia Fiesolana. Bathrooms and vending machines in the Badia bank corridor will be open for use; please note that cleaning services and heating systems will be operational only in these areas. In all other buildings the heating will be kept at a minimal level to ensure that the temperature remains above freezing, and all janitorial services are suspended.

For security reasons, before leaving for the Christmas break, all users are kindly requested to close the external shutters of the windows.

The Institute does not provide assistance for watering plants, so individuals should make their own provisions accordingly.

Library services (inter-library loan etc.) are not available and access is permitted to EUI members and alumni only (when the Library is open, see Library Opening hours). Books may be left in the Badia book drops and books may be checked out at the self-check machine.

The ICT Service guarantees that all systems relating to the web, internet, VPN and home directories are monitored during the closure.

The webmail service is always reachable from  http://outlook.com/eui.eu

The multi-function printers located in working spaces are monitored remotely and the technician is authorized to intervene in case of blocking issues.

Tickets opened on the EUI Helpdesk are not treated during the closure, they will be assigned and processed only at the reopening of the Institute.
