ICT Resources

ICT's infrastructure includes a wide range of resources, the most visible to the end user being listed below.

Email, Network (both wired and via WiFi, as well as VPN) and homeserver (Personal and Shared Network Areas) are considered "core services" and are thus monitored by ICT Service 24/7.

The full set of resources is detailed in the Service Catalogue accessible through the EUI Helpdesk  portal..

For a detailed outline of each of the below sections, click on the corresponding menu on the left.

ICT Service will provide equipment related to health issues (ergonomic keyboard or mice, etc.) or assistive devices (phone with flashlight, etc.) based on indications provided by the relevant Unit in charge.

If you need such special IT equipment or assistive device, please contact:

Please Note: delivery times may vary depending on the resources, options on the market and specificity of the request.

Collaboration takes many forms (e.g. document sharing, messaging and conference calls) so there are various choices for different collaborative working scenarios:

Storing and sharing files

I want to... Recommendation
Store and work together on documents with my internal team Microsoft Teams lets team members work on documents at the same time, without checking them in and out.
SharePoint is also good for storing and sharing documents and allows for more advanced sharing options.
Store my files while working off-campus If you need to store files while outside of the EUI use OneDrive for Business.
This should only be a temporary location while you are working on the documents. Final versions should be moved elsewhere, for example your Unit's shared drive, SharePoint or Teams (if available).
Store and work together on documents with my external collaborators Microsoft Teams lets team members, including external collaborators, work on documents at the same time, without checking them in and out.
Store digital recordings of lectures Replay Lecture capture is a simple-to-use tool to record and securely store lecture recordings.
Share large files with colleagues OxFile is a service for staff or students to exchange large files, both internally and externally.

Online chat

I want to... Recommendation
Quickly ask colleagues a question Skype for Business instant messaging with other Skype users (including non-EUI members), wherever they are located. These messages are not saved.
Microsoft  Teams allows focused messaging on specific topics through the Conversation functionality within channels. This allows you to keep conversations together for easy access.
Teams Chat is part of Microsoft Teams but can also be used for messaging with anyone within the Institute. These messages are saved, so be aware of the EUI Data Protection Policy.

Audio and video for meetings

I want to... Recommendation
Hold an audio/video meeting

This depends on what you want to be able to do in the meeting, and the type of delegates (internal to the University or external).
Within Nexus365 you can use:
Teams for internal meetings. You can use video, providing you have webcams, and can share screens via ShareTray.
We recommend Nexus365 tools as your first choice. Other options for audio/video meetings are:
Chorus: internally within the University, and can also be used for meetings with external delegates. Good for teleconferencing and web collaboration.
Canvas: users of the Canvas VLE have access to Big Blue Button functionality to hold video meetings.

We have also produced a guide to holding remote meetings, with lots of hints, tips and good practice.
